“To a man whose mind is free, there is something even more intolerable in the sufferings of animals than in the sufferings of man.  For with the latter, it is at least admitted that suffering is evil and criminal.  But thousands of animals are uselessly butchered every day without a shadow of remorse. If any man were to refer to it, he would be thought ridiculous. And that is the unpardonable crime.” – Romain Rolland

“In their behavior toward creatures, all men are Nazis. For the animals, it is an eternal Treblinka. Human beings see oppression vividly when they’re the victims. Otherwise they victimize blindly and without a thought.” – Holocaust survivor, Isaac Besheva Singer
(Awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1978)

As we celebrate our freedom and right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, our fellow earthlings do not enjoy the same inherent freedom.  In every single day of human existence, millions of sentient beings are systematically enslaved, tortured and killed in the name of greed at the hands of “humanity” with no regard for their lives.  The rights of the nonhuman species is the greatest justice issue of our time and is, in fact, a ‘soul’ issue perpetuated by an egocentric society in a state of ‘spiritual disconnect.’

“The assumption that animals are without rights and the illusion that our treatment of them has no moral significance is a positively outrageous example of Western crudity and barbarity. Universal compassion is the only guarantee of morality.”  – Arthur Schopenhauer, The Basis of Morality

If our fellow earthlings could fight for freedom, they would be marching for liberation in the same footsteps as the social justice movements of our cultural history.  Their cries for mercy are unheard by a society that perceives the villosity of skin with a disparate separateness and perception of inequality.

Know that the same spark of life that is within you is within all of our animal friends.  The desire to live is the same within all of us…” – Rai Aren, Secret of the Sands

When society frees its vision from the body’s eyes to see with the eyes of the soul, it will truly be liberated at the highest level – the vibration of love – where injustice will be eradicated by the principle of equality of all living beings, who have the inalienable right to life, possessed by the very nature of one’s existence, not predicated on the worth of a particular species. The interests and welfare of all living beings should be considered purely on the basis of the right to life, ability to feel suffering and moral principle.

Let freedom ring for our fellow earthlings.  Then they will be “free at last! Thank God Almighty, they will be free at last!”
